About the Department- The Department of Zoology at Jagiroad College was started in the year 1986, initially at Higher Secondary level. The B.Sc general course was started in the year 1988 and finally the Major course started in the year 1998. The first batch of major (Honours) students passed out in the year 2001. The faculty members of the department offering their dedicated and sincere service for the betterment of the students and the outcome of which is well reflected in the performance of the students. Dr. Anjana Dutta Barbaruah was the founder HoD. The sanction faculty strength of the department is four with two laboratory bearers. From the time of establishment several temporary faculties have given their best service for short periods. At present the department given its service with four regular faculties. The department has a well-equipped laboratory supported by Star College Scheme of Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India. The department organises seminar, workshops for the students, not only for its own students but for the students of the neighbouring Colleges. The students are encouraged for different activities which facilitate participative and experiential learning through model preparation, exposure to advance laboratories, field visit, group discussion, use of ICT and other hands on activities. The overall academic atmosphere of the department is healthy to motivate the students.
